Spinning wheels offer attractiveness and, using custom or
“vanity” styling, an endless combination of images,
colors, and materials to express yourself. The three main
categories of “spinners” differ in quality, versatility,
materials, and price. First check that a spinwheel dealer
has the size, material, and fit requirements (like lug nuts
or valve stem) you want.
Spin Wheels –
have the spinning mechanism built into the wheel, so have
the same materials and finishes as a normal wheel. Ask if
the spinning segment, for example, can be a different color
from the stationary segment.
Spinners or Retro-fit
Spinning Wheels - are add-on accessories that spin independently
of your existing wheel. They attach to the rim and are bolted
to the wheel by lug nuts. Expect spinners to be made of aluminum;
they can be shaped into almost anything (e.g., flames) and
finished in any color or style you’d get for a wheel.
Because spinners fit into a pre-existing wheel, first check
with a wheel dealer to ensure your wheel is suitable for the
spinner you have in mind.
When asking your dealer about spinners, also
ask about bearings and wheel-spin duration – you don’t
want to be at a stoplight for 1 min but your wheels spin for
only 20 sec.
Spinning Hubcaps
- may be made of high-tensile strength plastic. Ask
about any performance kit to extend the hubcap spin. Some
offer different settings to enhance spin duration which may
also increase the spinner's vibration.
Warranties and
Return Policies - Warranties for any of these devices,
as with all other warranties, are dealer specific. So check
around and find out about their warranties and return policies
before you commit.
