Diagnostics – What Noise and Vibrations May Indicate

There are various noises your may hear or vibrations may feel; here we cover a few which relate to tire or wheel problems. Always check with a mechanic or tire service dealer for a complete diagnosis of any noise or vibration you sense.

Vibrations can be caused by a tire or wheel problem. Tires can lose a balance weight or develop a bulge. A tire with a bulge may be covered under warranty, so check with your dealer. If you hit a curb or pot-hole, you may have damaged a wheel. Wheel damage and tires out of balance can be diagnosed and repaired, including for most wheel damage. You need to get your tires and wheels checked from an authorized service dealer and repaired or replace immediately to avoid more problems and for safety.

Pulling or vibration can be caused by wheels that are mis-aligned. This is especially likely if when you apply the brakes, your vehicle tends to pull to one side. You need to get your alignment checked as soon as possible to avoid uneven and premature tire wear, as well as possible loss of control of your vehicle.

Rattling or grinding noise may indicate bad wheel bearings. This is especially noticeable when driving slowly alongside a wall or other vehicle with your windows down. You need to have your wheels checked very soon as bad wheel bearings can do considerable damage to your axle.

Always have your vehicle's wheels, tires, brakes, and suspension examined by authorized service dealer
