Buying New Tires –  Benefits of Nitrogen-filled Tires

Tire dealerships, tire discounters, and auto dealers are gearing up for nitrogen – instead of air, nitrogen-filled tires provide several benefits; most notably: nitrogen-filled tires

         - Hold tire pressure three to four times longer than air-filled tires

         - Have a longer tread life – up to 25% longer-lasting

         - Run about 20% cooler, resulting in less tire degradation and better handling

Of course, in a pinch, you can fill your tires with air even if they were nitrogen-filled, and then had them refilled with nitrogen when you want.

So why aren’t all tires nitrogen-filled? Because it was costly to produce compressed nitrogen compared to compressed air. Today, technology makes it more affordable for dealerships, service stations, and tire dealers to purchase nitrogen-compression machines. These are beginning to pop-up in many places.

Check tire dealers about whether or not they provide or plan to provide nitrogen-compressors. If they do, they may charge from $3 to $15 (for a set of 4 tires). Whether or not you get charged or by how much may depend on buying tires from the dealer. So check several dealers, including tire dealers over the web because ultimately the value of nitrogen is in the extended life and better performance you get out of your tires.
