Tire or Wheel Problems –
Checking and Maintaining Proper Tire Pressure

The best way to maintain your tires is to buy a good quality tire pressure gauge; the dial type as opposed to the “pen” type – tends to be easier to read. The correct tire pressure is printed on the sidewalls or the outside, non-tread part – of your tires. You can also find it in your manual or on a sticker in the glove compartment or door jamb. The pressure is listed in pounds per square inch, or PSI.

• Check the pressure at least once a month

• Check the pressure when the tires are cold (have not been driven for three hours)

• Remember to check your spare tire for loss of air

Proper tire maintenance is usually a requirement for tire dealers to honor their warranties; this may include tire rotation. It is relatively easy for a tire professional to determine whether or not the tires have been driven with improper inflation.
